NOTD: Zoya Casey

PRICE: 3/5 $6 @ Zoya.com
PACKAGING: 5/5
OVERALL: 9.5
REPURCHASE: Yes!

COLOR
Casey is a beautiful dark purple, almost black cream nail polish. Indoors, it looks like a dark purple, and outdoors in the sun it still looks like a dark purple. However, you can see the plum undertones in the sunlight. Casey is true to the bottle. One coat gives a sheer purple-plum color.. With two coats, you get the color of the bottle.

APPLICATION/TEXTURE
Casey is very easy to apply. I do not use the Zoya ColorLock Sysem. Over Poshe's Super-Fast Drying Basecoat, Casey applies smoothly and is thin. However, this polish is meant to be applied using 2 coats. The first coat applies somewhat opaque and somewhat streaky. Applying a second coat will cover all of that up and give the same color of the bottle. Casey dries quickly without the use of a fast dry top coat. I like to use it with Poshe's Super-Fast Dry Topcoat, and it dries within minutes.
On the brush, Casey looks thicky and gloopy, but it isn't. I think it's the nature of the polish. When I apply it, I wipe off one side of the brush. The amount on the brush is enough to cover my nails.

WEAR
Manicure: I've worn this on my tips for a week and there were no major chips, just tipwear. I used Poshe Basecoat and Topcoat.
Pedicure: Using Poshe Basecoat and Topcoat, I wore this for 2 weeks without chipping. There was some wear, but nothing major.

OVERALL
This is a great nail polish, especially if you are interested in vampire colors. I will repurchase once I finish my bottle (that will take awhile!). I can see why this is such a popular color from Zoya.

French Manicure, 3rd Try is a Charm

I have lost interest in makeup, well not totally. I am excited to see MAC's Starflash collection. Anyways, I have recently gotten into taking care of my nails. =)

I used Orly Beverly Hills Manicure: Natural Look Nail Kit. This kit is a good starter kit for those getting into getting their nails done. The instructions tell you to put Bonder, then a layer of Beverly Hills Plum, Sheer White Tips on the tips, a layer of Beverly Hills Plum and In A Snap Topcoat. I tried that method, but I didn't like how it turned out. The tips were too sheer and too pink. I wanted the white to be brighter and darker.

This is the process I used. I let each step dry (~15-20 min) before I proceed.
1) Apply Bonder Basecoat. This dries in 2-3 minutes.
2) Apply a thin layer of Beverly Hills Plum
3) Apply a second layer of Beverly Hills Plum
4) Apply a very thin layer of Sheer White Tips in vertical strokes, starting from the middle and work you way out.
5) Apply a 2nd layer of Sheer White Tips
6) Apply In A Snap Topcoat
7) Apply 2nd coat of In A Snap Topcoat.

This whole process takes about 2 hours, and that didn't include prepping the nail. I know its hard to find 2 hours of absolutely nothing to do, but the results do pay off. While letting it dry, I carefully surfed the internet and watched tv. hehe.

From the picture above, my nails look natural and very shiny, like I just put on clear nail polish (except on the tips.) It's hard to see the plum/grapefruit tint, but it's there.

This is my third time doing my nails within a week. Bad, I know, but I had to. I first bought two orly colors Sheer Peche and Softest White as my French Manicure colors. That was a nice combo, but I didn't like how it took awhile to dry (I think it's my Maybelline Base/Top Coat). Then I attempted using the method given in the kit, but I hated it and painted over the nails again and that didn't dry. So I tried once again and I liked the results!

I wish I had pictures of when I first tried to do this freehand. It came out UGLY! But don't worry with practice it will get better. I also found it easier to do my nails on the floor and rest my hand on my knee while I do it. So I guess it's all about trying to find a method that works.

Product Review : CND Solar Oil

Price: 3/5
Packaging: 4/5
Overall: 4/5
Repurchase: Maybe

CND stands for Creative Nail Design. CND Solar Oil is a cuticle oil that is brushed onto their cuticles and massages it in. Pretty Basic huh?

What the box says:

Solar Oil is a synergistic blend of naturally light oils and Vitamin E, designed to deeply penetrate and protect nails and skin.

Directions: Apply daily to top and underside of nail and massage into surrounding skin.

Warning: Discontinue use immediately if irritation develps.

Ingredients: Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Simmondsia Chinesis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Oil, Fragrance (Parfum), Tocopheryl Acetate.

Originally, I bought this just to sample it and I hate to say it, but I really love it. It makes my cuticles soft and haven't really gotten any new hangnails since I started to use it. I love how it smells like almonds. It makes me want to put this on constantly. I also broke down and decided to get the 15 ml bottle (.5oz). It retails for $11, but I got it for $7.50 when Ulta had a $3.50 for $10+ purchase. Hehe. The .25 oz retails for $7. Now you see why I gave this such a low score in the price category. It can be found online for cheaper, but I shipping costs offset how cheap it is.

Here's my little army of Solar Oil. I got the small ones from Trade Secret.

I use this after I shower/before bed and in the morning (when I remember). This is a good product for the upcoming winter months since it will most likely be spent indoors with the heater on. The only thing I don't like is it can take a few minutes to sink in and that I have a fear that I will spill it.

There really isn't much more to say. It's glorified oil that you put it on, rub it in, and go on your happy way. I don't think it's a necessity to have. Based on the ingredients, I am sure you can use jojoba oil, almond oil or even olive oil. I just got it because it smells nice. LOL. Will I repurchase? Probably not because by the time I finish off the bottles, I think I would have my own concoction of cuticle oil.

Newfound Knowledge of Nails

For the past month, I have been on the MUA Nail Board. I love it and I love the wealth of information they have. It's hard to find stuff on the internet, but I like how everything is there. I also have found other blogs to read too.

The ladies on the Nail Board are awesome. Here's what I have learned:

1) Seche Vite (or Poshe) Fast Dry Top Coat - I currently have a small bottle of Seche Vite and I love it. It dries my nail polish in less than 5 min and it is dry to touch in less than 30. It's better than Orly Sec N' Dry.

2) Nail Polish Thinner - I did not know these things existed. I always thought nail polish remover helps thin nail it, but I was wrong. I have yet to purchase thinner, but I learned thinner is thinner. You can use the one from Sally's and it will work fine.

3) Creative Nail Design Solar Oil - I love this stuff! It makes my cuticles very soft! It's just an expensive cuticle oil that you put on your cuticles and rub it in. It's basically glorified mixture of almond, jojoba and a variety of other oils. I am pretty sure I can concoct something together, but I love this stuff. And it smells good too! I don't think this really strengthens and increases the growth of my nails. I think the massaging encourages circulation, hence healthier nails.

4) Glass nail files are your friend. I purchased one from Sephora, and I am in love! Glass files are much more gentler on the nails. Ever since purchasing one, I haven't had a nail clipper come close to them. My nails haven't even split at the sides nor have I had any snags (I am very prone to snags).

5) File nails with nail polish on. I have funky shaped nails and their shape makes filing hard. To remedy this problem, I'll file with my nail polish on because it acts as a guide.

6) Buffing - I own several buffers. I didn't know that there is a correct way to buff nor did I know that it's possible to over buff. So, I have decided to put away the buffers and use the buffer to when i need to.

7) Do not cut or file nails after they are wet. I know they are soft, but they are weak. This makes them prone to breakage.

8) The difference between non-acetone and acetone removers. - Acetone is drying, but it a lot better to use to take off nail polishes. It's best to use on dark colors or glitters. Non-acetone removers are not as drying, but make it harder to remove polish.

9) Vinegar - A much gentler alternative to alcohol. It is used to remove the extra oils from the nail bed prior to laying down the basecoat.

10) It's better to apply layers in a thinly, rather than thickly. This helps to prevent bubbling and polish will dry faster.

I think thats all for now. I'll probably add more later.

Ewww.

I am guilty of using testers at cosmetics counters. I really want to know if that lip color or lip gloss looks good on me, but now I don't think I want to be doing this anymore.

Here's what I read in Women's Health Magazine

"Before you try that lip gloss at the makeup counter, consider this: One researcher found high levels of bacteria including E. coli, from fecal mater (Yes, you read right!) in samples of lipstick, eye shadow, blush, and cream taken from several different cosmetics counters. If you're getting an in-store makeover, ask for the products to be sanitized--and never put anything near your eyes, nose or mouth that hasn't been."

EWWWW.

Happy Labor Day!

I don't believe in not wearing white after Labor Day. Why? Because it's stupid.

Anyways who's watching the Nadal vs. Querrey match? It's pretty good!

Right now I am craving some Zoya nail polishes. I found some in a salon, but I didn't really care for them. Next time I shall go and check them out.

I need more nail polish colors. I've been wearing OPI Bubble Bath for quite awhile.

Guess what's for lunch? Popcorn! haha. Unhealthy, I know, but I feel like popcorn. hehe.

My New Love - Nails!

I have seriously given up on wearing makeup. I am at the point where I am ready to sell it and start all over. haha. And I really think my MSFs (Natural in Med Dark, Warmed and Light Flush) are breaking me out. GRRR. That means I have $75 collecting dust. Blah. I should sell it.

Since the latter half of July, I have been learning and reading about nail care on the MUA Nailboard. I am still not a fan of they way the MUA boards work, but I sucked it up and used it. I have learned so much about how to care for my nails, what products to use and what tools are necessary. I do not have a lot of products (yet), but I have found a few things that I really like.

First, I love Creative Nail Design Solar Oil. It's a cuticle oil that you place on your nails and rub it in. It smells like almonds and it's easy to use. However, this little guy is expensive! I've seen a 1/4 oz bottle sell between $7-$10. When I am feeling cheap, I will use my jojoba oil since it is listed as one of the ingredients.

Second, I love my glass nail file from Sephora. Ever since I purchased it, I haven't used a nail clipper. I use it to shape my nails and to maintain its length.

That's what I love right now. I am pretty sure I'll find something else to add, but that is all for now.

Lagging

So I have been laggin on posts lately. I never realized how much effort it takes to blog! haha. Well I know it's one thing to write, but it's another to place pictures in it too. hehe. So much props to everyone that blogs.

I also have been thinking about my makeup obsession. After playing soo much tennis this weekend, I decided to stop purchasing makeup. I've taken soooo many trips to the MAC store and the counters and many times I have come out with nothing. I also need to start using up my makeup. I've accumulated stuff over the past 2 years, and it's just too much makeup to have. So I think I am gonna quit on the makeup purchases. I also want to focus more on tennis and haha tennis ain't that cheap. Must buy balls and overgrips and most importantly... a spare racket!

Shortness

I found this on Pursebuzz.
http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/tlg/563125425.html

I'm an inch short! grrr. I should have listened to my mom and drank my milk. That could have at least given me an inch or two more.

Since I am on the topic of short.... I need to vent about what I found in my tennis forum. I think the thread was called "The Short Persons Club." I thought, "Cool! A Thread for short people!" I clicked on the link, and the OP says that anyone under 6'0" can join. SIX FEET!!! What the FUCK are they complaining about being short. Six feet is tall. Heck my prom date in high school was 6'1 and I had to stand on a box, with three in heels so we could take pictures. I know there are others who are shorter, but c'mon if you're gonna say short at least gimme 5'5". I know thats short for tennis, but everyone on there was averaging 5'7". ARG.

As much as it sucks to have to use a stool or some type of assistance, I do not mind being 5'1. It does have its perks. I love how I can sit crosslegged on the airplane. More legroom for me! hehe. Also, at Pacific, the biology lecture hall had these tiny, desks and cramped chairs but I could sit comfortably in them. My tall gangly 6'0 friend, however, sat hunched over. I don't fall as hard compared to someone taller. lol. So hey, its not that bad being short.

5 Random Facts

Long overdue, but better late than never, right?

1) I don't use regular hair ties. Hate them. I use those Japanese ones that you cut up to the length you want and tie them. I get them from Longs in Hawaii. I need to get more because my supply is running low.

2) I am flatfooted and because of that I use arch supports. Don't laugh because I am a strong believer in the kinetic chain.

3) I've never played in the snow. I've seen it on the hilltops in Fremont, but to actually touch it and play in it? Never.

4) I mysteriously broke my right 4th metacarpal (bone below ring finger) during a basketball game in high school. All I remember was going up for a rebound one minute (I got the rebound), passed it out, looked at my hand, and ran down the court thinking, "why is my finger waggling around like this", getting the ball, air balling the open shot, grabbing my hand in pain, getting subbed out, saw the trainer and got the news. Fun, huh?

5) I own a Playboy magazine. It's the one of Hugh Hefner's gf's with the white background. I only bought it because The Girls Next Door is one of my favorite shows!

Wallet Damage

Oye. I did some damage this weekend. I bought a couple of new makeup items. First was my new Clinique Superbalm in Raspberry. It was $14 at Sephora. I really like Clinique lip products. Ok I only have two items, but they are very moisturizing.

Its very moisturizing and gives my lips a nice red tinge. I don't really like how it won't come out of the tube if its cold. grr. But other than that, its pretty good. I was going to buy a Juicy Tube in a Berry Bold because I loved the color, but I thought spending $18 on lipgloss was ridiculous! I have a feeling that I might return my backup Full On Lust l/g from MAC. eek. Not good. I honestly thought I would use it more, but I barely touch my current one.

The second item I bought was MAC Sumptuous Olive eyeshadow. I have been eying this for awhile and I finally bought it. Its sooo pretty! This is my first jump into greens. The color reminds me of woodwinked, but less gold and more green. Its sooo pretty! It's still in the package. I want to play with it, but I the next goody is what I have been playing with all weekend.

And here is the wallet breaker....

Stupid racket! I swear if its not makeup that makes me spend money, it has to be tennis. Oh well. I think of it as an investment in my health. hehe. I have to constantly remind myself that. But this is my new racket! I want to name it Tommy after the old Pacific mascot, but I haven't made it official yet. Tommy reminds me of Tom Brady. ewww. I haven't gone out to hit with the racket yet. Stupid rain! Playing with the bf's racket convinced me to get it. hehe. So now we have identical rackets, except I have the oversize version.

Oh the bf hates how we have basically the same racket. oops! not really. I loved the way his played and so I got myself one! yay! I took the rubberband dampener off and replaced it with my gamma shockbuster. He also wants me to get a different overgrip, but I don't want to! I like the white yonex super grap. I was also the one who introduced him to it. hrmph. However, I do want to try the light blue super grap. I want my racket to look pretty. hehe.

So who watched Superbowl? Right now I am on a high. I am sooooo happy that the Giants won. I did think they were gonna lose 21-27. But OMG that was an AMAZING game! Defense wins championships! I honestly did not want to see the Patriots go 19-0.
Congratulations New York Giants!

Fun with Tan Pigment

This is a look using my favorite things- Light Flush, Warmed, Vanilla Pigment, Tan Pigment and Love Nectar (I need to buy another one soon!). Woodwinked is my HG eyeshadow, but I didn't feel like using it in this look. I did this look before going out to do errands. hehe. Too bad I messed up the look by washing it off and playing tennis a few hours later. Oh wells! It looked way better in person. My camera tends to wash out colors and I'm not very photogenic. hehe.

Haircut!

On Friday I decided to chop off the hair. I have't had a haircut since mid-May, which equals 8 months of no haircut. I know, I know, I am very bad for doing such a thing. I have a fear of haircuts because the stylist always fucks it up. Here are the pix!

Before

After

Playing with makeup
Face
MSF Medium Dark (129sh)
MSF Warmed (129sh)
MSF Light Flush (129sh)
Vanilla Pigment (129sh)

Eyes
Bare Study (217, 224) - entire lid
Vanilla Pigment (217) - on top of Bare Study, eyebrow highlight
Dipdown Fluidline

Yea I know the makeup isn't the greatest, but whatever I was messing around. lol. I miss my long hair. But this haircut is alot lighter! I asked for bangs and the stylist cut me some bangs, kinda razored it and it is slightly layered. She also cut it to a length where I could put it to the side instead of having it in the front. She then put long layers in the back so that my fine volumeless hair would have some volume. And of course, I have to have my front layers. Yup thats my haircut. I did have some trouble with it this morning because my bangs were standing up. But water always fixes that! I guess I have to shower in the morning to tame it, but its too freaking cold!

*********************************************

Warmed and Light Flush are my newest MSFs! Well they are my first ones too. I love them! I think I like them better than the blush because I finally figured out why my blushes make me look like a clown by the end of the day! The oils from my face make my blush darker! AGGG. But I haven't had this problem with the MSFs. I am too lazy to post pix of it. There are tons on the internet. LOL. Originally I was only going to get Warmed, but Light Flush looked so pretty I had to get it. Oh wells. I think I mentioned that in an earlier post.

I love my vanilla piggie! Pursebuzz got me into it. I also have a tan piggie, but I don't like to use it as much. I want more piggies, but I don't want to spend $21 (damn u 8.75 tax!) on a piggie. I guess next time I go to the outlet, I'll purchase a piggie. hehe.

So does anyone out there have lipgelees? I tried them once and purchased Valentine's but ugh I hated the sparkles! So I returned it. I want to go back and try them again because I love the texture! Got any suggestions for my lovely NC42-C6 skin color?

*********************************************

This weekend, the honey and I played tennis. I was praying that it wouldn't rain because the clouds were kind of dark, the sun was out and it was rainy. But we got a good 1.5-2 hour session in. Woot! this time I played with Peyton and the M-fil. I was hitting better with Peyton, but I honestly feel like there is something missing with that racket. LOL. After playing with Peyton for awhile, the bf said that if I won a point, I could play with the M-fil. Guess what, I won. hehe. I thought I was going to loose because the ball looked like it was going out, but it hit the baseline! Woot! Playing with the M-fil was different. It was a lot heavier. Agh.

Right now I am eyeing a Head Liquidmetal 4. Well, I have been eyeing it since October. I think I might just get that silly racket already. Its a good beginner racket, has a smaller head, near even balance and its heavier than Peyton. Which is what I want- a racket with a smaller head, near even balance, and heavier than the current racket. Except I don't think I can use my gamma shockbuster with it since there is a dampening system on it. poop. I love my shockbuster. LOL.

January 21st was my 23rd bday! My bf just took me out to sushi. Yummy! Which was perfect because I had a craving for raw fish. mmmmm. Do I look 23? lol. I hate getting carded because it means I have to dig through my purse to get my ID. I miss bdays in college. They were sooo much fun! I hate to say it, but my 22nd bday was soooooo much fun compared to my 21st. I had big parties for both, but I honestly didn't really start drinking until I was 21. haha. Before 21 I had an occasional drink, but not until 21 did I really drink. hehe. Which is why my 22nd was AWESOME! I also have about 5 facebook albums dedicated to it. haha. Loved it! here's one of my favorite pix:
FYI, theres actually water in that cup. You like my shoes? LOL. I had locals on, but I wanted to wear my Vans. The party was relocating to my place (we all partied at the bf's place bc it was bigger) to play Mario Kart! Except I didn't play because I don't believe in drinking and driving. I know its fake, but still. I did play Smash Bros! hehe. Oh game cube.... I can't wait for Mario Kart to come out on the Wii!

I'm back!

Well, I haven't been on for quite awhile. This past weekend was my bday (yay!). I feel so special too because Pursebuzz and I have the same bday! yay! I now know 4 other people born on that day!

Earlier this week my ac adapter for my laptop broke. I sepnt $70 to get a new adapter. I honestly feel like i was ripped off, but what can I do. But that means I can play with the broken part and try to fix it. haha. So yea I haven't been able to blog or read blogs all week! AHH. so much catching up to do!

I also got a haircut. =) I like it. I'll post about it later because I am too pooped out right now.

Have a great weekend!

Wow I wrote this in 5 min. haha!

Twig Twig and Full On Lust

So for Christmas I received a gift card for Nordstrom. I know I could have put this to buying clothes, but I find that their clothes are kinda expensive (although Banana Republic makes me weak in the knees). So I spent it on.... makeup! Haha. I bought Full On Lust lipglass (HG status!) and Twig Twig Lipstick. I am not really a lipstick fan, but I thought it would be good to have one just in case. I really want to go back and get Hug Me, but that shall be later. The following swatches were taken with no flash and used natural light.

My Lips

Here are my bare lips. I included this so you can compare. I think my lips do not look this pink/purple. Theres some brown in it too. The point that I really want to make is that my lips are pigmented. haha.

Twig Twig

In the tube, twig twig looks boring and dark. I was hesitant to buy it because the website said it had plum undertones. However, when I put this on, it looks natural and gives my lips a nice pinkish brown hue. Since it is a luster lipstick, it goes on very sheer, but its not too shiny nor does it have sparkles. Yay! I like how it can be layered to a desired intensity. It doesn't have that nasty lipstick taste (yay!) and it lasts for a couple of hours. It can be kinda drying, but I think that has a lot to do with the weather right now since it is the wintertime and the air is dry.

Full on Lust Lipglass (FOL)

OMG! I really want MAC to make this permanent! This is what I have been looking for in a lipglass! I've compared this to Entice and Lust lipglass at the store. Compared to Lust, FOL is sooo much prettier. It is not as creamy and brown/light pink on my lips like Lust is. I think Entice was too brown and sparkly for my taste. FOL is the perfect pink lipglass on me. It does say it is a cream formula, but there are some sparkles in it. However, the sparkles are not as noticeable as they are in lipglasses like Nymphette and Enchantress. The sparkles are very subtle. This lasts quite a long time. It doesn't last through a meal, but it does last through eating a snack!

I tried Twig Twig with Love Nectar on top and the peach undertones of Love Nectar bring out the brown. It looks nice, but I am not a fan of brown lips.

Sort of off topic, but lip swatches kinda freak me out. haha. They just look weird when there is no face to go with it.

Well now that I am done editing, I can focus on watching the national championship game!

I'm a dork...

I'm a dork. The bf had to go to work today and the Chargers/Titans game isn't getting great reception. Please do not laugh at my caveman Excel skills.

Yup you do get a deal by purchasing the trial kit for $60!
I purchased Bare Escentuals in May 2007. I tried my sister's trial kit for a couple of days and I liked it. I tried this in the dry Vegas weather and found no problems. However, when I used it this summer, I would sweat and itch like crazy! AHHH! I think this also caused me to break out over the summer. ack. I am thinking that i used dirty brushes. Sadly this thing is sitting in my room unused! ARG! I did this to justify my purchase. Sadly the only things I am still using from this kit is the Concealer Brush and the Skin Rev-er. This totals to only $49! AGH! So I wasted money here. The foundation expires in September, so I think I might give this to my sis or to my bf's cousin who also uses this stuff. I hate wasting makeup. Maybe I have the receipt somewhere and I can return it. Maybe I will try this again since I gave up on MAC Studio Fix because it kept oxidizing on me and now i have MAC MSF Natural in Med Dark. I kinda gave up with Medium Dark because it contains talc (its the first ingredient listed!) and I hear talc is bad for you so I just use it occasionally.

I know, I this is my second post today. hehe

Also, does anyone know how to fix my background? It repeats and I do not like it!
